MATX 600 -Interdisciplinary Lab - Eyes closed & shoes, from an lab exercise. Hosted by Picasa.

I took the first 9 pictures with my eyes closed.

Patrick Vickers - photo taken with my eyes closed

I consider this one to be the best photo taken with my eyes closed.

My visual memory regarding people is almost non-existent. I take pictures of people who are close to me so that I can remember them better. My memory accepts more sounds than images; that’s why my computer is full of digital snap shots of people I work or study with. Most people don’t like it when I take pictures of their face, which leaves me with other options, like capturing their hair, hands, feet, or a blurry profile. This fragmented information tells me something new or unique about the people I’m supposed to remember. Once in a while, when I capture a close up, like Patrick’s, it becomes easier for me to put together the face, name, and voice of that individual. After this, I’m almost sure I will remember them for a long period of time.

The intention of this video was emphasize the different meanings of the same word. Nathan and I made a list of words and then each one recorded an image to illustrate the words.

MATX 600 - Interdisciplinary Lab - e-portfolio first semester version.

This first version of my portfolio was made using Photoshop, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver. Some of the drawings were made with Adobe Illustrator. Instead of producing the site with only with HTML code and CSS (Cascade Style Sheet) code, I designed the site as linked images. Click on the previous link or the image below to visit the site.

Flash site

MATX 604 - Production Workshop - e-Portfolio second semester version

The main page and most important pages of this version were written in Flash, which gives the pages elasticity and brightness as well as interaction and animation. The problem is that Flash cannot be displayed on iPhones, iPod touch, or computers with an old version of Flash.

ePortfolio second semester version

This version of the e-portfolio, or eportfolio, has less sections and larger images.

MATX 690 - Ars Combinatoria - Video 1 | Video 2 | Visual Poem | Make Your Own Sculpture

All of the above materials are part of "Spring Cleaning 2009: The Rotten Words Project," which was the final project for the Ars Combinatoria seminar. On March 24th at Shafer Court on Virginia Commonwealth University Monroe Park Campus, I asked people to give me words they no longer wanted to use. This project is part of my presentation and final paper for the Ars Combinatoria seminar. The intention was to write a poem with the donated or discarded words, but the words also formed a sculpture. I created a video that documents the progress of the word collection ("Video 1") and another video that shows each word ("Video 2"). I created the music using only my computer keyboard and the synthesizer from the software MaxMSP. "Visual Poem" is the photographic version of "Video 2;" this is actually a screen shot of the photos of the words on Picasa.
